High School Sponsorship Keeps Talented Girls in School
On 24th July 2024, the senior management team of Kelly, Diana, Moses, and Scevar alongside the student sponsorship program team, conducted a school visit at St. Claire Nembu Girls school to gain insight from one of our sponsored students, Chochole, on the impact of the academic sponsorship opportunity. The visit included a meeting with the head teacher, class teacher, and a brief interaction with a few students to understand the overall school environment.
During the visit, Chochole expressed her immense gratitude, sharing in detail how the opportunity has positively impacted her academic outcomes and alleviated the financial burden on her economically vulnerable parents. She described how the scholarship has enabled her to focus on her studies without the constant worry of financial constraints by providing her with essential school supplies, pocket money, and additional holiday support payment previously out of reach.
She also shared how the mentorship session and tuition books provided to her during the school holiday enabled her to improve her mean grade from a B- to a B+.
Chochole is now confident that her dream of becoming an advocate will become a reality with the continued holistic support from the sponsorship program. She talked about her passion for law and desire to use her future career to advocate for social justice for underprivileged populations and communities. Moreover, she expressed her interest in following in the similar footsteps of LUHA president, Kelly, of targeting vulnerable children with education and social protection interventions to safeguard their overall life outcomes.
In closing, Chochole told the team that without the support given she would probably not have been enrolled to the school due to the existing financial constraints facing her parents. She emphasized how the sponsorship program has not only impacted her academically but also emotionally and psychologically, providing her with hope and a sense of security. The team commended her for the improved performance and encouraged to strive for excellence in her academic and personal life. The school visit concluded with a group photo and a cultural dance prepared by the drama club.
